AFP to PDF and PDF/A conversion

The solution converts Advanced Function Printing AFP (Line mode and Mixed mode) to PDF and PDF/A. This conversion process provides a smooth migration path for IBM AFP printer clients who want to add web delivery to their applications without making costly architecture changes.

The solution provides extensive font management and has the flexibility to map fonts to either standard PostScript/PDF Type 1 fonts or embedded Type 1 fonts for a professional look. Custom fonts are automatically converted to PDF fonts. The solution uses PDF overlays (or any other raster format) to emulate pre-printed form stock. This makes the creation of watermarks easy, allowing the full power of PDF to be utilized within legacy applications. This approach can be used to add full color graphics, web site links, java scripts and much more.

The process uses object-to-object AFP to PDF and PDF/A transformation rather than object-to-bitmap transforms. This approach produces a PDF file optimized (including compression of all resources) for printing. Any data in the print file can be used in Bookmarks and automatically organized into multiple levels for easy navigation. Index rules can be set up allowing indexing on multiple criteria.

Support of all PDF document security features. This allows users to limit the access to the PDF files created by encrypting them with a password. It can also control the access to certain features of the PDF file, such as printing or editing. Creation of optimized PDF and PDF/A files by compressing all resources. These small and compact PDF and PDF/A files can quickly be downloaded or routed on the Internet for web based applications. The solution runs on a multitude of platforms including OS/390, zLinux, z/OS, Unix, AIX and Windows. This ensures that users can convert Advanced Function Printing AFP (Line mode and Mixed mode) to PDF and PDF/A files on the most convenient and streamlined systems.
