METACODE Series part. 1

Xerox Metacode / DJDE / LCDS to AFP conversion.

CRT provides a smooth migration path that allow organizations to combine their applications designed for high volume laser printers with the advantages of the AFP architecture. Metacode to AFP converts print streams and resources from Xerox LCDS, Metacode and DJDE to Advanced Function Printing AFP formats. Often, in today's print service market, providers need to move applications from Xerox platforms to IBM printers and controllers. The solution integrates seamlessly with IBM's InfoPrint Manager and OnDemand. The METACODE / DJDE / LCDS conversion solution performs an object-to-object Xerox LCDS and Metacode to AFP transformation creating an optimized compatible AFP file. This permits products like StreamWeaver and others to process the transformed files without any difficulties.

Users can achieve image fidelity. Fonts, images, logos and forms appear exactly the same on AFP printers as they do on Xerox printers. The solution dynamically transforms Xerox fonts to AFP fonts, providing superior font fidelity. The key to the power and flexibility of the solution is the way it manages print resources by automatically converting them into AFP resources, thereby simplifying the implementation process. The solution uses a print stream transform technology which accesses the Xerox print resources, as they are needed.

The framework contains support for an extensive array of Xerox print resources including Xerox bitmap fonts, images and macros. Resources are placed into Resource Groups, which can be embedded or put into a separate file. This design enables Windows and Unix applications to optimize the AFP data. Index control records (TLE records) can be automatically inserted into the AFP files when they are converted, thus making it possible to use the output files with archival systems such as IBM's OnDemand and ImagePlus. The solution runs on a multitude of platforms including OS/390, zLinux, z/OS, Unix, AIX and Windows. This ensures that users can convert Xerox LCDS, Metacode, DJDE to Advanced Function Printing AFP on the most convenient and streamlined systems.
