The PRO DD Archive allows print files to be stored
in an archival system of any format and on any platform and then
allows sequential or random sub-second retrieval of pages or subdocuments
for conversion into the requested format for viewing, faxing,
re-printing or data extraction/repurposing. |

Simplified archive management |

One of the key design points allows a single archive
to contain the pages, indexes and print resources for an entire
print run for simplified management. If the user wants, these
can be stored separately in order to load the index records in
a database for access by the retrieval application. This single
file can be stored on any storage medium. If desired, a single
print run can be split into separate smaller archive files.

One of the most valuable benefits of this product-run
oriented archive solution is that when the documents in a particular
archive expire, only the single archive for that particular print
run needs to be deleted to purge all of the documents, resources
and indexes. There is no need to perform major database reorganization.

The customer archival system can treat the PRO DD
Archive as a black box and the retrieval software needs only to
make a few simple API calls via the PRO Dynamic Document API in
order to retrieve the requested pages and convert them into PDF,
PDF/A, HTML, PostScript, PCL, AFP, Xerox Metacode, Text, XML,
PNG or TIFF images.

Another advantage of this solution is that the pages
and resources can be automatically compressed in order to save
storage space. Customer experience has shown up to 90% compression
can be achieved with certain file types while still providing
sub-second retrieval and conversion to the requested format.

The PRO DD Archive software reads the original print
file and creates an indexed and compressed PRO DD Archive file
complete with a single copy of all print resources required by
this particular job as well as an index file. The index file can
be read by a retrieval application or the PRO Dynamic Document
API to identify the contents of the PRO DD Archive file. The PRO
Dynamic Document API can be used to rapidly access any pages within
the file and convert them to any of the supported output formats
needed. |
