A recent EDSF survey showed 98% of companies utilize electronic delivery for some or all of their documents. Not only does that translate into immense quantities of transpromo customer documents created and archived, but there are legal and regulatory issues dealing with the long term storage and retrieval of these documents driving corporations in both North America and Europe to find better solutions to archive their required documents.
PDF/A (ISO 19005-1)
The arrival of PDF/A, an international standard (ISO 19005-1) designed for the long-term archiving of documents, has provided an answer that meets the regulatory requirements facing companies. When archived in the PDF/A format, the rendered visual appearance of the document will be reproducible over the long-term, irrespective of any hardware or software changes.
PDF/A archival format presents an opportunity for the organizations producing customer-focused documents to, for the first time, preserve the visual information in their documents and at the same time meet legal and regulatory requirements for long-term archival of electronic documents.
Responding to this need, Crawford Technologies, Inc. added the new PRO PDF/A product line that supports the PDF/A format specification. This addition to the CrawfordTech product lineup allows customers to start with virtually any printer description language, including AFP, LCDS and Metacode, PCL, PS, PDF and images, and produce PDF/A-1b output ready to archive for long term storage.
